Barangay chairman killed in Iligan City shooting incident

ILIGAN CITY / PHILIPPINES — Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot to death a barangay chairman in Iligan City late Thursday afternoon.


Quoting Iligan City Police director Senior Supt. Leony¬† Roy Ga, GMA News’ stringer Merlyn Manos on “Unang Balita” said that the victim was identified as Robert “Dodong” Fuentes, the chairman of Iligan City’s Barangay Saray.

An initial police investigation showed that two unidentified men riding tandem on a motorbike ambushed Fuentes in front of a hardware store along Tibanga Highway at about 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

Fuentes was on a multicab barangay service  when his assailants on a motorbike emerged and shot him in the head and body.

He was rushed to nearby Sanitarium Hospital but he was declared dead upon arrival.

Iligan City police operatives are hunting the suspects and investigating the motive for the crime.
